800,000 vehicles recalled for Takata airbag defect 04-07-2014

Japanese car makers will recall more than 800,000 vehicles after finding defects in their air bags. Honda, Nissan, Mazda and Isuzu filed a recall request on Monday with Japan's transport ministry. The recall covers 10 models by Honda, including Fit. Three other models made by Honda's overseas factories in the United States, Canada and in Thailand, will also be subject to the recall. Nissan is to recall Cube and eight other models, and Mazda two, including Atenza. Como, built by Nissan and sold by Isuzu, will also be recalled. The recall covers models assembled from August 2000 to December 2005. The transport ministry says improperly manufactured chemicals were used to inflate front passenger air bags. It maintains that at worst, the air bags could explode.
